Why wont 96 jimmy 4x4 sle start in wet weather?

We have a 1996 jimmy with roughly 125k miles on it. Today we went to go drive it and it wouldn't turn over. Thinking it was possibly a gas issue as we had run out of gas last week and the engine is running slightly rough recently when the gas is low. Put in about a gallon of gas and the engine started then died after about 5 mins while the amount of rain steadily increased. After a few more attempts the engine went from barely turning over to not turning over at all. The wetter it got the worse it got it seems. Now it wont turn over at all though all the interior lights and radio still work fine. My guess is some electrical issue but that is about all i got for a guess.
