What does it mean to have McCain say that he is a pro-life president??

I realize that Republicans really want a candidate that believes what they believe, which is all fine and good. But have you ever stopped to think if maybe McCain's talk abt abortion was simply religious pandering to the evangelicals? I mean, really...it's not like he said he would work to overturn Roe v. Wade! Then I would understand. But he didn't mention any specific policy that he would try to push - anyone can just say their "personal view" in an attempt to attract an important body of people and then get elected and do nothing about it. Wouldn't it be better to have a president that can represent different viewpoints? We are in fact a nation of many colors, religions and views. Isn't unity important during these hard times?
