What is the significance of these great gatsby quotes?

The second quote is Nick speaking about Jordon, and basically shows how shallow he really is. He says that it's ok for Jordon to lie because she is a woman, and her fame must play a big part in this idea of his as well. This quote can also be used to illustrate the loss of morals during the 1920's, and the changing role of women. Women were becoming more and more independent and the gap between men and women was closing. (Jordon cheating in the golf tournament). It is only Daisy who still conforms to the social standard of the 1920's. ("I hope she'll be a fool... that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a pretty little fool.")
