What the best way to sharpen a rusty hatchet?

i found this really old and rusty throwing hatchet. the edge of the blade is really thick from rust. its a vintage throwing hatchet. extremely hard to find. i don't want to throw it away. so I've tried to use nail files to remove the rust and so the color is back but i want the blade sharp. any suggestions??
