Questions on Final Fantasy 12 and basic FF babble.?

Okay, so I'm starting to get the jist that relationships between the characters never actually form? I just got into the area where I have that other sky pirate from Belfonheim with me and I'm wondering if anything ever developes with any of the characters? This si the second time I have played the game up to this point, but I'm steadily loosing interest. I really miss the Final Fantasy 3 games. I remember playing 2 for the first time and then getting excited when I beat that and hoping and waiting for number 3. I stayed up all hours of the night playing that game. I really like FF for not only the fighting, but for the story line and for the *sigh* Romance. It seems this FF didn't put any effort whatsoever into there call beasts! I love Bahamut and thought he was a mainstay in FF, so what the heck is up with Belias!!?? My first impression of him was I thought it was a giant monkey. I dunno, do you think that they will improve or steadily worsen to non exsistance.
